Landmark Food Rescue Milestone: Expanding Large Donations to All 50 States in 2025
As the nation celebrates America250 this Fourth of July, the organization reflects on a landmark achievement that embodies the power of unity and service across all 50 states.
FoodRecovery.org’s Large Donations team has made history. What began as an ambitious internal goal has culminated in a landmark achievement: for the first time in the organization’s history, the team successfully coordinated the distribution of food donations in all 50 states within a single calendar year.
As the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary this Fourth of July, this achievement highlights the heart of America250: individuals coming together to support communities in all 50 states. It's a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we unite for a common cause.
This monumental effort addresses a staggering national need. According to Feeding America, 48 million people in the United States face food insecurity. In 2025 alone, FoodRecovery.org’s Large Donations team moved an incredible 76 million pounds of food and supplies, providing essential resources to feed an estimated 13.7 million people.
The journey was not without its challenges. As December progressed, the team faced the very real possibility of falling short of their goal, with four states remaining on their list. With the clock ticking, the situation reached a critical point on December 11.
That day, FoodRecovery.org received a miraculous call regarding a donation of baby formula. The team mobilized immediately, leveraging their logistics network to successfully deliver a total of 24 pallets of donated baby formula to nonprofits in the last four states. This last-minute operation proved to be the final piece of the puzzle, allowing the team to cross the finish line and secure their 50-state sweep.
“It was so exciting to accomplish our goal and get families baby formula right before the holidays. We are a small but mighty team, and it feels amazing to have such a big impact across the country,” said Ellen Schoenberg, Large Donation Program Manager.
The achievement is especially meaningful as the nation marks America250, a semiquincentennial celebration that organizers have framed as a call to unity, reflection, and service. FoodRecovery.org’s 50-state effort embodies that spirit, proving that a small, dedicated team can help feed families from coast to coast, strengthening the fabric of communities nationwide.
This achievement underscores FoodRecovery.org’s capacity to execute large-scale logistics and respond to critical needs, ensuring that food reaches communities nationwide. As the nation reflects on 250 years of history this Independence Day, FoodRecovery.org continues to write a new chapter in the fight against food insecurity, strengthening communities from sea to shining sea.
